Congratulations to 2023 Retiree, Mrs. Debbie Buchanan! 🍽️🎉
Mrs. Buchanan has retired after 15 years of service to Anderson 3. Debbie was born and raised in Iva, SC, and is a 1978 graduate of Crescent High School. She began subbing in the cafeteria in 2004 before accepting a full-time position at Iva Elementary in 2008. Later, she transferred to Starr Elementary, where she worked as a School Nutrition Operator until her retirement. Debbie and her husband, Terry, have been married for 39 years and have two children, Candace (Brent) and Kelsey (Joseph). They have two grandsons, Hudson and Baylor, with one on the way this summer.
"What will you miss most?"
"I will miss the faculty, staff, and students of Starr Elementary. They are like my family! I also will miss seeing my grandson in the school setting every day. One of my favorite memories was working at Flat Rock during the Covid shutdown, packing bag lunches. I worked with and interacted with people from the district that I do not get to see regularly. It was fun getting to know new people, even during the chaos of the pandemic. Working in the educational setting, no matter what capacity, allows you to watch the students grow and mature from K4 to 5th grade. Seeing their growth throughout the years has been very special to me."
Thank you for your faithful service, Mrs. Debbie! We will miss you at Starr Elementary. 💛

Meet 2023 Retiree, Mrs. Jennifer Christenbury! 🍎🎉
Mrs. Christenbury has retired after 33 years of service to Anderson 3. Jennifer is originally from West Columbia, SC, where she graduated from Brookland Cayce High School. Jennifer obtained a bachelor's degree in Special Education from Winthrop and later completed a master's in Elementary Curriculum and Assessment from Southern Wesleyan. She began teaching Special Education at Iva Elementary and later transferred her classroom to Flat Rock Elementary upon opening.
Jennifer and her husband, Mike, have been married for 30 years. Together they have a son Graylyn, and two daughters, Kaitlyn and Amberlyn.
"What will you miss most?"
"The relationships are what I will miss most. I have taught my students for multiple years. The student I have taught the longest is 16 years. I know their families, and they know mine. We go through the ups and downs of life together. The connection is different than any other in education because of the years we work together to educate and care for their children with special needs. My favorite memory would be when a student's parents nominated me for the Golden Apple Award. This is a special memory because these parents were hesitant to send their special needs child to school. I was able to reassure them that she would be treated like she was mine, and we have a special bond through caring for the child's best interest."
Mrs. Christenbury, you have blessed so many for 33 years. Thank you for loving the children of Anderson 3 like your own. We wish you a wonderful retirement! 💛
Congratulations to recent #TigerAlumni Emily Blackwell! She has been named the SCCAWS 3A Softball Player of the Year! 🎉🥎

After obtaining her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Erskine College, she began her career teaching at Starr-Iva Middle School. Most of her teaching years were spent in 3rd and 4th grade at Starr Elementary before finishing out teaching 5th Grade at Flat Rock Elementary.
Patricia and her husband, Scott, have been married for 24 years. Together they have one daughter, Hannah.
"What will you miss most?"
"I will miss the relationships with my students and co-workers. I will also miss those moments of student success, whether it be understanding a new skill or reaching a goal. My favorite memories come from the bonds established with the students, the funny things they say or do, and the many ways they show how much they appreciate me as their teacher. Being an educator is a calling. You have to be dedicated and, even on your worst day, give the students your best."
Thank you, Mrs. Wooten, for devoting 30 years to educating, inspiring, and loving the children of Anderson 3. We wish you a wonderful retirement! 💛
