Mrs. Vaughns 1st graders enjoyed playing a game of "headbands" on this rainy Thursday. ✏️☔️
Our teachers recently took a closer look at the vocabulary words used in their daily read alouds and shared their plans with teammates. 📚
Teachers also collaborated to sort synonyms and antonyms on a gradient chart according to their meanings. We are thankful for our district taking initiative to provide teachers with strong professional development through LETRS training.📘
For the last three weeks, Mrs. Blanton’s first graders have been learning about our local community during their reading block. After learning about the vocabulary word “churn”, students discussed how farmers in our community work to provide milk so that we can have things like butter, ice cream, and other dairy products. To celebrate their learning, the class made butter, ate it, and wrote a thank you note to the Peeler Family at Milky Way Farms. 🐮🚜🧑🏻🌾 Thank you, local farmers!
We're exciting to kick off our Healthy Kids Running Club! Please look for information in your student's Friday Folder this week. When your child logs 26.2 miles over the course of the school year, turn in the log sheet for a free T-shirt and become a member of the Marathon Club.
We are so happy to have our Reading Buddies back with us this school year! Currently, we have seven reading buddies from the community who visit us weekly to read with our students. We look forward to seeing them each week! 📚
Our K4 students had a great time at Muffins with Mom yesterday. 🥰
Our first graders kicked off their subtraction unit by playing a fun round of bowling! Students took turns knocking down the “pins”, modeling with a drawing, and writing a subtraction sentence. 🎳
Say cheese! 📷🧀 Tomorrow is picture day at Flat Rock! These pictures will be used for our yearbook. Proofs will be sent home for purchasing.
K5 concluded their unit on apples by sampling a variety of yummy apple treats and graphing their results! 🍎🥧 Mmmm, delicious!
What a fun way to practice vocabulary! 2nd graders took turns sorting their vocabulary words by parts of speech. Adjective, verb, or noun? 🤔🤍
Mrs. Loftis and Mrs. O'Barr's K5 students are working to beautify our school by planting broccoli and marigold seeds. 😍🥦🌼
Flashlight reading in Mrs. Johnson's class = a fantastically fun time! 🔦📚
Classroom Substitutes play a vital role in our success by stepping in to keep learning on track! Our classroom subs do a fantastic job supporting student growth when the teacher has to be away for a day. 💪📚
If you know someone interested in becoming a Classroom Substitute, please call us at 864-348-6196 or email Karen Gentry, Administrative Assistant, at gentryk@acsd3.org. ☎️👋📧
Kudos to Coach Johnson and Flat Rock Elementary School for being recognized for meeting the Students Health & Fitness Act requirements for weekly physical education/activity minutes during the 2023-2024 school year! 🏀👟
Dr. Ben Miedema, Education Associate for Physical Education & Health, paid a visit to Flat Rock on behalf of the South Carolina Department of Education's Office of Assessment and Standards.
While Coach Johnson was not able to be present at school, we are so proud of him and the Flat Rock team for exceeding healthy standards at school! 👏
