What better way to wrap up a unit on penguins than to have a 1st grade race... penguin style! ๐ง
After spending time researching types of penguins, digging deeper with vocabulary, and creating nonfiction books about penguins, our 1st grade students decided to hold a race from the point of view of a penguin. Instead of racing on foot, students used their bellies to slide across the gym floor on scooters, propelling themselves with their "flippers"; also known as tobogganing.
Each class was awarded with a platinum, gold, silver, or bronze medal for their great efforts in the FRES Penguin Olympics. ๐
