For this week's #TourTuesday we caught up with Crescent students participating in the Michelin Youth Apprenticeship Program at the US8 Michelin Plant. The Michelin Starr Plant manufactures semi-finished rubber mixes. Throughout the program, students complete learning modules throughout the plant, while also earning a wage. On our tour, we witnessed students working in different areas of the plant as raw materials are processed into rubber compounds known as semi-finished mixes. These semi-finished mixes are used in the manufacturing of tires at Michelin's tire plants. Students work half the day at the Starr Plant and spend the other half in their standard instructional time at Crescent. Because of the apprenticeship program, our seniors are given a fantastic opportunity that allows them to make a smooth transition to the workforce, while also benefiting from working with one of the world's top employers. The US8 plant is dedicated to providing the most innovative material that Michelin customers expect, and we are thankful for Michelin's continued dedication to our students!

In honor of Black History Month, we would like to honor Ms. Connie Lindsey. Ms. Lindsey was the founder of New Deal, an all-black school for grades 1-12, founded in 1953. The "school on the hill" remained New Deal until school integration in the fall of 1970 when it was renamed Starr-Iva Middle School. Lindsey (pictured right) was instrumental in ensuring the proper education of Black children, and a magnolia tree was dedicated to Ms. Lindsey upon her retirement in 1965. Today Connie's tree stands tall in front of SIMS and is a constant reminder of her love for educating children. Thank you, Ms. Lindsey! #blackhistorymonth
