🐴 SIMS SGA Saddles Up for Leadership—AND WINS! 🤠🏆 This past weekend, our Student Government Association (SGA) members attended the SCASC State Convention at Chapin High School, embracing this year’s theme: "Saddle Up for Leadership!" ⭐ 8th-grade student and SIMS SGA President, Leilah Schmuck, made us proud as she ran for District 6 Second Vice Chair! 🎉 BIG NEWS: SIMS SGA won 1st place for our leadership project among other AAA middle school SGAs! They also won Gold Honor Council for all of their school projects for the year! 🏆👏 🎤 Our students had an incredible time: ✅ Connecting with student leaders from across South Carolina ✅ Participating in middle school workshops and swap shops to bring back fresh ideas for our school ✅ Hearing from inspiring speakers on what it means to be a leader ✅ Engaging in the election process—learning about campaigns, caucusing, and voting at both the district and state levels We are so thankful for our SGA Advisors, Dr. McMillan and Mrs. Bowen, who gave up their weekend to pour into our students' growth and leadership development. 🙌 It was an unforgettable weekend of growth, leadership, and school spirit! 💛

🎉 Last week, our 7th graders took part in a powerful guidance lesson focused on "Finishing Strong"! 💪 Our counselors led an interactive session where students explored strategies to finish the school year on a high note, from setting goals to staying consistent, and using their personal filters to stay focused. 📚✨ We even had a fun relay race to illustrate how each person’s journey is unique — some start at the beginning, some at the end, but every race matters! 🏃‍♂️🏁 Along the way, we discussed the importance of effort over talent and how every student’s journey is meaningful and important. At the end of the lesson, each student wrote down a goal they want to achieve by the end of the school year, along with their plan to make it happen. 💥 It was an amazing reminder that we all have different paths, but with determination, we can all finish strong! 🙌

🚨 SGA Goes to Columbia for Legislative Day! 🚨 Last week, a few of our 6th-grade Student Government Association (SGA) representatives had an incredible opportunity to travel to Columbia, SC with Mrs. Bowen (SGA Advisor) and Mrs. Farr (Guidance Counselor) for Legislative Day! 🌿 While there, they met with our Clemson Extension Agent, Jessica Simpson, and heard from Greenville County Representative Patrick Haddon, a member of the Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Environmental Affairs Committee. He shared valuable insights on leadership and the importance of advocating for South Carolina farmland. 🏛️ Our students also had the chance to go inside the State House, where they saw the SC House of Representatives in action, discussing the state budget for the upcoming year. This was a fantastic learning experience for our young leaders, giving them a firsthand look at government in action!

Funnels or Filters? Our Mental Health & Wellness Coordinator, Christy Upton, recently spoke with Starr-Iva Middle 8th Graders about the power of filtering information in their daily lives. 🔎🧠📱 With so much content coming at them—social media, adult topics, and distractions—it’s essential to understand that their brains aren’t fully developed to handle everything thrown their way. Students learned that prioritizing their time and filtering out the unhelpful, unhealthy, or overwhelming content can lead to greater focus, success, and overall happiness. Not everything deserves a place in your mind—choose wisely! ✨
