2022-2023 SIMS Support Staff of the Year - Mr. Marvin McLin
"Mr. Marvin McLin serves as the Head Custodian at Starr-Iva Middle, but he is so much more than this title to our school. Never before have I met someone who is so passionate about their work, compassionate to those around them, and willing to go above and beyond with anything that is asked (or not asked) of them. Mr. Marvin does not seem to know the word no. Instead, if he knows there is a task to be completed, a job to be done, or someone in need of a smile and friendly gesture, he will undoubtedly be the person to meet that need.
You can always catch him fully dressed and coordinated for Spirit Week in some of the most over-the-top and amazing outfits that will make you laugh and smile. At random times throughout the year, you might also catch him in one of his signature costumes pushing the dust mop down the hall or walking around the cafeteria. That said, you can always catch him with a welcoming smile on his face and usually a story or joke to brighten your day. This is just who he is.
Recently, Mr. Marvin was accepted into the SC Create program, where he is currently studying to become a Special Education teacher. If there is anyone in this world who will become an excellent teacher with the heart of a servant, it is Mr. Marvin McLin. We can only hope that when the time comes for Mr. Marvin to move into this new chapter in his life that he will be able to remain in Anderson Three. If the world was full of Mr. Marvin McLin’s, I can honestly say what a wonderful world it would be."
Congratulations, Mr. Marvin!
