Congratulations to 2024 Retiree, Mr. Don Nelson! 🥳💛🎉
Mr. Nelson has retired after 22 years as a School Bus Driver. Don's wife of 22 years, Trish, suggested he try working for Anderson 3 with her after retiring from management in textiles. Many years later, Trish and Don have retired together this year! 🚌
Mr. Don has lived in Iva for 50 years and has two children, Jenifer and Chan, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren! Fun facts: he played baseball at Anderson College, has a teaching degree, taught Algebra for one year at Belton Middle, and was class president of his senior class at TL Hanna in 1963! ⚾️
"I will miss my students and the people I work with. The year I received Bus Driver of the Year was one of my favorite memories. My whole family was there to celebrate with me! I have enjoyed all the years I drove a bus route, went to ballgames and worked around the bus office. I especially loved the special needs children who rode with me."
Thank you for being so dedicated to #A3Students, Mr. Nelson. We will miss you! 💛
Congratulations to 2024 Retiree Mrs. Trish Nelson! 🥳💛🎉

Mrs. Swope, a 2nd Grade Teacher at Flat Rock Elementary, uses syllabification to break her word of the day into three syllables. 🤓
We have been so proud of our teacher's eagerness to learn and grow this past year during Year 1 of the two-year LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) professional development. Year 1 of LETRS training covered foundational knowledge and skills essential for effective reading instruction. Units focus on topics such as the complexity of reading development and the processes involved in learning to read, the prevalence and impact of reading difficulties, including dyslexia, phonetics of the English language, including phonemic awareness and the importance of phonological skills in reading and spelling, and systematic and explicit phonics instruction, developing decoding skills, word recognition, and spelling.
Teachers also learned Advanced Decoding, Spelling, and Word Recognition, including multisyllabic word instruction and advanced decoding strategies. They wrapped up year one by integrating all the foundational knowledge about language structures—such as morphology, vocabulary, and syntax—into reading instruction.
We are excited for year two of LETRS! 🔠

Congratulations to 2024 Retiree Mrs. Paulette Haynie! 🥳🎉
Mrs. Haynie has retired after 23 years of service to Anderson 3. Paulette is originally from Abbeville and is a graduate of Abbeville High School. She attended Tennessee Temple University and Piedmont Technical College. Paulette has worked in her current role as a kindergarten paraprofessional at Flat Rock Elementary for 11 years. Before that, she served at the district office and as a Special Education Paraprofessional.
She and her late husband, David, have one daughter, Katelyn (Robert), who has blessed Paulette with a granddaughter, Daveigh. Paulette is excited to spend more time with her family and serve at church.
"My favorite memory has to be seeing students light up when they can read or understand a math problem. Seeing students grow in their learning has been rewarding. Also, when former students wrote me a letter thanking me for encouraging them to be all they can be. My motto has been "I can and I will" with students "who feel defeated" in their learning. Sharing this with some of the students gave them encouragement to try a math problem or sounding out a word while reading a book. When that student attempted and succeeded, a smile came to their face. That has always been the most rewarding time as a paraprofessional, knowing I made a difference in a child's life." 💡💕
Thank you for being so dedicated to #A3Students, Mrs. Haynie. We will miss you! 💛
